Become An Internet Entrepreneur:
Content, Traffic, Pre-Selling, and Monetizing

Why do you want to become an internet entrepreneur?

Money? Time? Freedom?

Be clear about your reason. Whatever it is, when you have a compelling why for what you want, the how becomes much easier.

That said, there are a lot of "hows" out there. As you search for ways to become an internet entrepreneur, you'll find tons of ideas and get-rich-quick schemes. Unfortunately, many of these paths will only suck away your time and money, leaving you at a dead-end and no closer to your dream of becoming an internet entrepreneur.

Specifically, here's what I see happening over and over: people put up a quick blog or an online store, which is the equivalent of an online brochure, and then sit back and wait for the money to roll in.

Unfortunately, it never does and they wonder why. Then, in an effort to drive people to the site, they engage in SEO gymastics (search engine optimization) and costly advertising. This brings a small trickle of visitors, yet even these visitors leave the site because they view it as "just another online shop" selling something.

I know this story all too well, because I built several "online brochure websites" that nobody went to before I found Site Build It :)

• Content: Use your brains and motivation to create focused a site with lots of free, good content. This content should over-deliver value to visitors. It should not be simply a marketing pitch.

• Traffic: Once you have good content that will over-deliver to visitors, continue to build free traffic through a variety of means (links, directories, and more content). With great content and lots of it, much of your traffic will come from Google. Think of each page of content as a net to bring in visitors searching for specific answers.

• Pre-sell: With great content and lots of it, your visitors warm up to you. They don't see you as just another cheap site on the internet trying to sell a product by any means necessary. You build trust with your visitors by treating them right and by providing great value.

• Monetize: Employ a multi-pronged monetization strategy: ads, affiliate programs, selling your own hard goods or e-goods, having auctions, and on and on. Because you have many daily visitors who already like you, your odds of making money skyrocket.

Why It Works

The reason C-T-P-M works is that people use the internet to find good information. Unless you're Facebook, Amazon, or another extremely popular site, people are not looking for you. They're looking for answers, tips, products to help them in their life.

When they go to Google to search for answers, Google tries to find them the best information out there. Google does this because they want to put their "Sponsored by Google" advertisements on the best, most relevant pages. They make more money that way. So, it's always in Google's interest to direct people to good, helpful sites as opposed to sites that are simply one big sales pitch.

So, building great content first brings free targeted traffic. (You'll also build traffic other ways, but content is king.) If you have great content and you treat your visitors right, you build trust. People prefer to do business with those they trust, so you'll be able to monetize multiple ways (ads, selling hard and soft products, affiliate programs.)

If you skip these important steps, you'll be stuck with just another on-line brochure no one buys anything from.

Thus, building great content, treating visitors right and earning their trust, and monetizing your site multiple ways is a proven formula to become an internet entrepreneur. It doesn't happen overnight, but nothing of sustainable value does. Your mother was right: most get-rich-quick schemes don't work and, worse, actually just take your money.
